Problem repair ,reinstall, make FreeAgent bootable , find HD serial

    Hello All,

I have many inquiries now here is my situation :

I am not sure weather my machine is infected. It happens after I installed clock creensaver; after reboot to window 7, there is an information identified around that the previous hardware or software installation may cause the window unbootable , use repair disk to repair computer (I tried both window 7 and XP likewise Easeus todo backup bootable manu , all are unbootable ).

The repair disk loads very slow during boot up and the repair process takes more than several hours and not yet finished ( is that normal?) ; instead , I decided to reinstall window then delete both OS partitions. My plan is to install one OS then recover both OS from Easus todo backup image file. The problem is I could not make bootable data from window 7 file in spite of ability previously. Could infection (weather I am not pretty sure) damages .iso files?

Besides, for XP installation , the laptop is shut down itself during copying files at around 50-60%, I tried 2-3 times, any idea why? Anyway, I notice that the left side of the keyboard is very hot checking from speed fan before failure presented GPU temp = 65 °C. HDD = 44 core 0 = 65 °C core 1= 63 °C (is this normal?) is that relevant to the system shut down?

Nonetheless ; there are OSs image backup file in FreeAgent external drive . Would you please suggest how to make external HD bootable ? I can not burn Easeus bootable media as I use netbook without optical drive now.

For more query, The machine informs formerly that OS partition is damaged (seems referring to bad sector yet I am not pretty sure) , Are there any approaches to check weather the harddisk is damaged without installing window? Like wise, are there any methods to know the real (manufacturing) harddisk serial number not volume serial number without opening the laptop also no window installation please?

It seems to have so many questions in one thread yet I need all suggestion though.

    Please kindly advise.

I'm not sure I understand your situation fully, so I'll try answer individual questions. Use them as they apply.

    1) If you're talking about startup repair, it should only take a few minutes.

    2) Heat is often the cause of laptops shutting down. The temps you've listed are on the higher side though not disastrous, but its possible they rise high enough during the install. Theres not much you can do about heat other than cleaning out or using a chillpad. You can temporarily stick a large fan and aim it at the rear of the laptop which can be raised a bit on a book or something to control temps.

    3) To make the easeus bootable media (disk, flash drive, usb hdd), see here.

Create bootable disk - EaseUS Todo Backup online help

    4) For hdd diagnostics, download the appropriate tool for WD.

    HD Diagnostic

Since this is a netbook, you'll need to run it from a flash drive. To make a bootable flash, follow the instuctions here.

USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

Instead of dumping the win7 dvd contents to the flash drive, extract the hdd diagnostic iso to it.

If you can't get into Safe Mode to install, update and run Malwarebytes,
then download and write to CD or flash stick, boot and scan with Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper

Once system is clean, boot DVD or Repair CD to run Startup Repair, which should automate System Restore and SFC, but if not run SYsREstore from Recovery Tools options list, and SFC from Command line: SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot

If system will not repair, you can copy out your files using DVD/Repair CD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Then boot Factory Recovery to run full Factory Recovery, run the disks if you made them or order them if you didn't, or find a Win7 installation DVD to clean reinstall following these steps: Reinstalling Windows 7

    Hello All,

    @ Bill2 ,
Thank you for suggestion. I tried creating bootable flash drive per your link yet unable to create it , I will try (many times) again later. For other issue, I might ask you again afterward since the harddisk seems to be really infected as it becomes one allocate space now.

    @ Greg ,
I follow the tutorial you provided to create standalone system sweeper on the flash drive ; nonetheless , there is an error massage occurs.

Due to suggestion from help hyperlink https://connect.microsoft.com/system...__Toc290622872 indicated that

Failed to format the selected USB drive

oCause: Creating the USB bootable media may fail if the USB drive cannot be formatted.

oSolution: Try to use a different USB drive. If this does not work, try running Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta on a different computer or reformatting the USB drive using Windows standard interface for formatting.

Regarding to solution, I have no more system or usb drive supported but tried reformatting the usb flash drive in window interface many times still show the same error; however, .iso file could be created yet I have no optical drive , are there any suggestion or alternative way to create bootable usb , please ?

Note : I tried some freewares to create bootable usb ; nevertheless, most of them support creating .iso of the OS file.

    Please kindly advise.

Ps. For further query according to your suggestion , I would ask again later , Thank you

Thank you for recommendation , I ran Long Generic mode from Seatool yet fail the test as the bad sector is detected. There is a good feature to repair the bad cluster ; however, the limitation is that feature only applicable for “Seagate Technology or Maxtor brand disc drives”

The most favourable feature provided by seatool is that (quote from seatool user guide ) “
If you give permission to attempt to repair a bad sector, then SeaTools will attempt to write a 512-byte pattern of zeros to that single error sector. Usually, this action will assist the disc drive firmware in managing the problem by retiring the problem sector and activating a spare in its place.

Is this mean that other good condition cluster surfaces will not be interfered and still be in the same condition also this process called Zero fill
? - as I am pretty confuse about the difference of various HD repair process -

Are there any other tools provide such feature, please ?

Additionally, I ran W-D Data Lifeguard Diagnostic extended test also fail while repairing bad sector .

Are there any suggestion , please ?

edit : At unit serial No. represented from
W-D Data Lifeguard Diagnostic extended test , is that the manufacturing HD serial which is unchanged after format or volume serial which alterable after each format , please ?

    Please kindly advise,
