Repair Windows 7 Professional fails - Error 0x0

Using the tutorial at Repair Install I am attempting to repair Windows 7 Professional but at step 6 A) of the tutorial the following message is displayed:

Windows could not update the installation files. To install Windows, close Setup and restart the installation. Error code 0x0

I would appreciate advice on how to proceed as I believe I have complied with the the steps thus far as set out in the tutorial. Please advise me if any further details are needed.

Try a clean boot. In msconfig>Startup uncheck everything and restart. Then in msconfig>Services choose "Hide all MS Services" and uncheck all others, reboot several times, uninstall anything which writes itself back in. Now try Repair Install.

Unplug all external devices.

Choose NOT to remain connected to internet to receive updates during Install.

Run Disk Check, then test your HD using maker´s extended CD HD Diagnostic scan

Test your RAM. RAM - Test with Memtest86+ Swap RAM sticks or try Repair Install with only one stick.

GregRocker, Thank you for your response and advice. I'll report progress in due course.

BTW - As my installation disc is without it I have uninstalled SP1

You can also try to find a Windows 7 installer for your version with SP1 to do the Repair Install, which will add SP1 during install.

For the time being, due to pressing family matters, I have been unable to make any progress with the various suggestions recommended by GregRocker. I hope to be able to add to this thread sooner rather than later. In the meantime my thanks for his posts and their contents.
