The error during install is normally due to corrupted media or installer.

    Where did you get Win7?

Verify the ISO integrity or download another, then burn DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed with Verify.

Next try writing confirmed ISO to flash stick using this tool with Win 7 in dropdown menu: Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3
Boot under USB, Removable or HD's using one-time BIOS Boot menu key.

I am having the same or similar problem.
I have run chkdsk C:/f and r, etc: Result...
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems.
The install disk works as I installed on a spare drive (not installed)
Setup runs to 41% hangs and then the dreaded 0x80070017
Any help greatly appreciated. This is my sons laptop and he needs it urgently for his studies

You can save a WIn7 backup image of the spare drive you successfully installed upon: Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

Then reimage to the target HD with only it and the image storage plugged in. System Image Recovery

If you'd rather troubleshoot the install failure, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

While in BIOS setup set SATA controller setting to AHCI to try install first, then IDE mode if necessary.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

Next try wiping the HD: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Boot the installer, choose Custom install, then at Drives selection screen click next to let it create and format the partition for you.

Next test the HD with maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan,
then test the RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Facing problem of restoring back up. Error 0x80070017

    Hi
I back up my system into an external hard disk and was told to do system recovery on my lap top. Then restore the back up.
After I finished system recovery and tried to do a back up, I got this error "cyclic redundancy error" 0x80070017
What can I do? I'm sure the files I backed up are there. I can't use it now. Can it be saved? Pls help.
