Windows 7: Problem with AuthenTec AES1660 & Digital Persona

My Sony laptop has an embedded fingerprint reader set up for AuthenTec AES1660 however I prefer to use Digital Persona software because it will also protect individual files via fingerprint. I know that Digital Personal has been discontinued for the individual and I have the latest update 4.11 but on other laptops I have always been able to find the relevant fingerprint hardware driver for Digital Persona to recognise ... until now.

Can anyone please show me how to find it and get Digital Personal security software working on my Sony Laptop. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

You'll need the drivers for your fingerprint scanner first. Fingerprint scanners are a PITA to set up, you know what I mean? I struggled for months with mine... Now it works fine though, with Digital Persona.

You're right there Slasher my man ... PITA it most definately is ... I contacted Sony who gave me a driver for AuthenTec AES1660 but it still won't recognise Digital Persona ... I'm using it on an external fingerprint sensor which is another PITA ! ... Am trying to find out what make the sensor is, maybe it's AuthenTec (?) in case they've got another driver .. daft thing is I had no problem with the Sony Z13FGX I had before, worked first time ... should never have sold that laptop ... I need more than aspirin to solve this PITA ... I hope some out there can help me ... p l e a s e ...

Whoa man, nice laptop. $2000 is a lot for a laptop... that's 13 inch lol. You really sure you 'need' Digital Persona? I ain't even sure it protects files via fingerprint... Back in the day when Digital Persona dealt with little ol' people like us they did a File Security add-on for about $10. You right click a file, click on Encrypt and swipe your finger and that's it, same to Decrypt. If you click on the encypted file it prompts you for a finger swipe. All the other software I've come accross only provides a secure folder which as you would say Slasher, is a reeeeeeel PITA

Thanks for the link but I've already tried them all and I had a long email back from Sony telling me all the things they can't do and/or are not responsible for. So it looks like I've hit a brick wall. Maybe it's a Wndows 7 thing.

The only way I got my fingerprint to start working was to install a retail fresh copy of Windows 7 (not OEM or from a recovery disk), then install its drivers. Its worked for about a month so far .

Mmmmmmm ... that's a bit extreme, especially for a new laptop ... but I did wonder if it might do any good ... but then I've got to download allllllllllllllll the drivers for everything from the Sony website which is a lot of hassle and a lot of time and it may not work for me ... that really is a last resort ... don't know what else to do though ... maybe there's something I can download from MS Windows 7 ????

If you want to get the fingerprint working, it would save you more time to re-install Windows 7 from a clean retail copy and try if it works than scouring the internet for a fix. For me, the HP copy of Windows 7 (bloated of course), was messed up, so many things wouldn't work, including the fingerprint. After installing from a clean retail copy, it works great .
