    Help with diskpart in win7

    Hi, I'm from Brazil.

I've installed Win7 RTM on my ASUS G2S.

    My HD was like, 200Gb:
    C: Vista (70Gb)
    D: My personal data (130Gb)

    E: Optical drive
    F: FreeAgent - Backup USB Drive (320Gb)

I formatted the C: and installed Win7 on it.
The problem is that the Win7 doesn't show the D: volume. I don't know why, but this volume is marked as "system". Now the D: is the optical drive.

    Using diskpart, I get this:

    Volume (0) Ltr (D) Type (DVD-ROM) Size (0) Info (-)
Volume (1) Ltr (C) Type (Partition) Size (68GB) Info (Boot)
Volume (2) Ltr (-) Type (Partition) Size (118GB) Info (System) -> Here is my personal data!
Volume (3) Ltr (E) Type (Partition) Size (298GB) Info (-)

I need some help to change the Volume (2). Maybe System->Active.
But I'm affraid to lose data.

    Thanks.

Welcome to the Windows 7 Forums, Brazil. We are glad to help out, if we can.

Right click the "Computer" icon and select "Manage". Then find "Disk Management". Using this you can assign or change drive letters, manage partitions, and lots more. Let us know if this does what you need.

    Thanks for the answer.
I tried to do that before, but I couldn't assign a letter because that partition is marked as "primary".

    C: "Logical" Boot
    - "Primary" System

I think it should be like that:
    C: "Primary" Boot
    D: "Logical"

But I don't know how to change that.... =(
    Thanks for your attention.

Right click on the partition (within disk management) and change drive letter and path.

download free trial of acronis disk director (it works without restrictions)

Install it, start it, when asked auto or manual, chose manual, it will show your disks in more detail.
Please make a screenshot of that screen for us, so we can see how it looks.

    Note.
Win7 disk manager is very rudimentary.

Acronis DD is much more advanced, but yet simple to use.

I think you are right! Here is what my partitions look like:

    Attachment 20928

I have added a couple partitions to show the "Boot" partition, C:/, and Image BkUp H:/ are "Primary" partitions. Any additional partitions after three are "Logical" inside of an "Extended" partition (the green part).

    Edit:
You probably should not change the drive letter of the C:/ drive because it is the "System" partition where the OS is running. However you should be able to edit the drive letters of the other partitions.

You may know this already, but I wish to have clear communication because you indicated your C:/ is a "Logical" partition. If so, this may be the source of your difficulty. Let us know if we understand correctly or not?

Edit: Note: If your "personal data" is inside a "system" partition: "System" partitions can be "hidden". Un-hiding it by marking it "Active" will not affect the data inside.

    Thanks to everyone.
I tried the suggestions, but they didn't work. =(
So I decided to backup my personal data using Hiren's Boot CD v9.9 to my Backup USB Drive.
After that, I deleted all partitions and did the simple cfg:
    C: - 70Gb - Primary - Installed Win7 x64 Ult RTM
    D: - 130Gb - Logical - Data

Thanks again.... I'm sure I'll need you again hehe
