Exactly! Everything is SATA. Opticals are on mobo SATA headers 3/4.

Win7 doesn't like RAID1? Why am I not surprised.
Boot installer to 1 drive? Worth a try, indeed.

No raid?
That is the entire point for this build.

Thanks everyone. Keep ideas coming. At work - typing on tiny phone. Will start again after work.

From the Drive CD, Check chapter 5.

For the AMD SB950, copy all files in the \BootDrv\SBxxx folder to your floppy disk.

Theog-
I have read that cursed manual cover-to-cover many times and am familiar with Chapter 5. I have not installed a floppy as I was under the impression that I wouldn't need one for this OS. Do you think a USB thumb will work?

-But- Re: The tutorial you attached. Thank you, by the way.

That is just the problem, indeed...
Everything is fine until step 4, where I am asked to insert the mobo driver disk. I do this and the machine cannot see the disk, or drive for that matter. When I insert the driver disk the drive spins momentarily but the directory does not update.

Now, however, it seems I have another issue.
I installed to a single disk but not in SATA mode (as gregrocker) suggested because that's just the problem.. can't get the machine to recog SATA.
SO-
I installed to a single drive - perfectly. All HDD's and opticals and front eSATA (connected to mobo via SATA) are recognized.
BUT-
How do I start over? I swear I would not be pestering you fine folks I had stuck to XP. I have thought long and hard about going back but now it's a personal quest.

Thank you

You say it won' t recognize SATA but then what mode did it install in?

Normally when install won't proceed in AHCI mode we advise to install in IDE mode. Is that what you did? If so and performance is fine then I'd leave it.

Install went smooth except for one small dilemma...

No RAID

What do you need RAID for?

RAID1, Fail-safe backup

Theog-
I wound up with an install to one drive, two discreet drives recognized... Can I switch to raid now? Do I start from scratch? How?

RAID1 isn't even redundant as if you lose one HD you lose everything.

Why not schedule regular Win7 file and imaging backup to the second HD instead of RAID?
