Fresh install missing CD/DVD driver nightmare

    The horror… The horror…
Fresh install missing CD/DVD driver nightmare-fig0.jpg

Take pity… Please help… Save me from more of this… The same “CD/DVD drivers missing” msg as so many others.

Desperately attempting to fresh install Win7, 64bit (Genuine OEM disk)
(This is what I get by trying to "Move on up" from XP)

If I set the BIOS to default values, Win7 installs fine.

If I change BIOS values to RAID1…
    1) Scrolling white bar “Windows is loading files”
    2) “Language” , Enter
    3) “Install now”, Enter
    4) “Setup is Starting”
    5) About 3seconds later I get “Select the driver to be installed” with a sub-window on top of that; Fig 1.

    6) Gigabyte explains similar (but not exact), Fig 2.

    7) I remove OS disk, insert mobo disk…. Nothing…. Machine only sees OS boot disk. Fig 3.

    Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Did you try to expand the X drive in Figure 3 to see what, if anything, is nested there?

Your OEM Windows DVD, is it one you bought or one from another computer?

X Expanded is the Win7 OEM. I looked through that with a fine-tooth comb.

    Disk purchased from NewEgg

    That's OK.

Have you checked the motherboard driver disc to see if is cracked or damaged in any way?

    Perfect condition.

When I remove the Win7 disk and insert the mobo disk the drive spins up briefly but does not change the directory in any way... Not read at all.

Well, if the drive doesn't show the motherboard folder, there must be something wrong with the disc or the optical drive.

I'm just wondering if it's worth copying the drivers to another disc or even a USB stick.

I'm off to bed now as it's getting very late over here so I'm hoping someone else will be along shortly.

Erm... think about it, if Windows Setup has no drivers to access the CDROM drive then how is it going to see the motherboard disc and get the drivers from it?
Still, this is a weird issue since obviously you must be booting from the Windows DVD just fine to even get to this point. You say this happens only if you change the controller mode in your BIOS to SATA/AHCI - is the DVD drive an IDE or SATA drive? Where/how is it connected?

It's almost always an error indicating a bad ISO or installer. In this case it may be the selection of RAID1 which Win7 doesn't much care for.

I would try booting the installer to install to a single HD in AHCI SATA mode.
