How Can I Clean Install Win 7 64bit On My System?

I've got a single hard drive with WIN 7 32 bit RC already installed and operating OK on my emachine T6414 AMD 64 bit 3200+ desktop with plenty of memory.

I want to replace it with WIN 7 64 bit RC clean install (not dual boot).

I inserted the 64 bit DVD WIN 7 install ISO disk in my DVD and either it will boot me into by 32 bit system, or it gives me options to repair it. But, no options to overwrite/clean install to replace the current 32 bit OS.

If I fully boot into the 32 bit edition and try to open setup.exe on the 64 bit DVD it sees a 32 bit system and will not open the 64 bit install program.

How can I clean install the 64 bit OS over the current 32 bit OS?

If you provide your system specs, it would be easy to tell you how to bring up the pre-boot menu and select the DVD drive as the boot drive.

You need to force the boot from the dvd player either change the order in bios or hit the setup key (varies by make/model) which is sometimes f-2. thats all there is to it.

Problem Solved

I got my DVD to force boot this time by pressing F10, then when it asked if I wanted to boot from the DVD to" hit any key", I quickly hit F10 again and it worked!! My BIOS had the DVD as the 1st boot device on both attempts.

Last time I tried it, I hit ENTER rather than F10 a second time, and I did it rather slowly, so maybe it just booted into the 32 bit WIN 7 because I was either too slow or it wanted a second F10 confirm. I can't tell which, but I'm writing this from the 64 bit WIN 7 now .

Thanks for you help!!

Hi,

I too want to do a clean install of the 64 bit OS, but over my current Visa 32.

I have a RAID 0 setup, so I have two questions: Does the Win 7 64 setup deal with the disc reformatting (looks like it does from the posts I've read) and will it then reconfigure the RAID setup?

Many thanks in advance

Edd

You will have to do a clean install in order to go to the 64bit version ... providing you can run the x64 version. The setup program will not be able to configure your RAID, you will need to do that on your own...

Thanks for the reply.

When you say, "providing you can run the x64 version", would you anticipate issues?

Apologies if my questions are a bit basic!

Cheers
