Installed memory (RAM): 2.00 GB stick

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You can only upgrade from Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Ultimate by the Windows Anytime Upgrade method.

Windows 7 Upgrade Paths

If your computer is running Win 7 Starter it shouldn't have any problem with Win 7 Ultimate.

If you want to Anytime Upgrade then type Anytime in Start Search box to insert your Ultimate Product key, it will unlock the extra features in minutes.

If you want to clean reinstall, then boot the installer to overwrite Starter. I would make your Recovery disks first or save a Starter backup image so you have a path back if needed.

If Ultimate won't boot, where did you get the installer? Confirm ISO download or download another, burn to DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed, or write to flash stick using Universal USB Installer

Well my installer worked on my friend's p.c.,so I was wondering why it won't install in my system, well they have older versions of hardware. it just stops right after the 1st loading of windows setup. 1st it says 'press any key to boot from you cd/dvd' which is normal then the 1st loading of setup, then the windows loading screen then after that it won't even go to the install promp/the one you choose language/time/currency format.

Use the Universal USB installer with Windows 7 in dropdown menu. Then boot it using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first boot screen, listed under USB, Removable or HD's.

It does sound as though there is a problem with your copy of Ultimate.

How did you acquire it and where from?
