Windows doesn't give a monkey's cuss which internal hard drive it's on and activation and validation issues would only crop up if you had a major change such as motherboard, hard drive, RAM and graphics all at the same time.

The choice is yours, but its worth considering installing Windows on your SSD for the performance boost you'll get.

Hardware ID normally only makes a difference with a complete hardware change which is why SysPrep removes the HID, SID as well as the drivers.

I don't think a HD/SSD change could be an issue even with the most stringently regulated software. If you're concerned then email or chat with the company.

Thank you ignatzatsonic, gregrocker, and seavixen32,

I've got the picture. I'll probably do it mid november: I'll clone the whole disk.
I've bookmarked and downloaded all the info that you've pointed out.
I'll make sure to remember to do the SSD aligning.

Thanks again.

If you use Macrium reflect there is no need for aligning. Although apparently 4096 is the best choice for alignment.

Hi Runckle_SP1,
Which version of Macrium should I buy or is the free version sufficient, Also
would you please briefly, tell me of your experience with the Macrium software?
4096? I see, for alignment.
Thanks for your advice.

I used Macrium reflect (free Copy) to take an image of my HDD and applied it directly onto the SSD. I tried a Windows image but had problems all the way. No need for quibbling about what else to do as the Macrium reflect free will do it all itself.

Hi Runckle_SP1,

I've downloaded the free version and 'am ready to go. I'll post back in a couple of weeks.
Thanks a lot.
