Replace Mother board Keep old Hard drives

I need your help as I have two different answers from 3 experts. Replacing motherboard and CPU plus RAM will current Hard drive Win 7 64 bit boot the system? Two knowledgeable person said yes no problem using the now current C: with its operating system. One person ( computer store) said no as the BIOS chip will be different. Can someone please let me know who is correct. I need to change motherboard and CPU (AMD 2.6 GHZ), also RAM to something faster because of a Birthday present. A new Game. Regards Peter

    It wont.

Not only will BIOS be different but drivers for the important things may as well.

You can minimize the problem by buying the same model but I suspect you want to upgrade.

To boot your existing Win7 HD on new hardware, first SysPrep on the old hardware to remove all drivers, SID's, HID's and activation. Then it will start up like a new install but with all of your programs, files and settings maintained: SysPrep to move HD to another computer

If you don't have access still to the old hardware, then boot Paragon Adaptive Restore CD on the new hardware and point it at the Win7 installation. It will do the same things as SYsprep so the new install will start.

Only in rare cases will Win7 start on new hardware, so there isn't any way to say for sure except don't count on it.

A clean reinstall is always a good option and actually better than getting a new computer since they are all larded with factory bloatware and useless utilities with better versions built into Win7. Here's how to get a perfect reinstall of Win7: Reinstalling Windows 7
