Intel drivers don't run Nvidia display. You'll need the drivers for the installed display device which according to CNET's specs for your model is NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M.

You'll see the download for it at the bottom of the VGA drivers list ( below the Intel drivers): VGA Driver (GT420M).n

Rightclick on downloaded file to extract the driver files, rightclick on Setup to Run as Admin.

yeah but when i try to run the nvidia driver it says i need intel drivers.
It won't let me install without them but i just ran them from the asus site

Maybe I need updated ones that arent on the asus page? i looked at the date of the intel drivers and they're something 2009.

Have you checked optional Windows Updates for a newer driver?

What is listed for the Display adapter in Device Manager? Is this the driver the installer gave you? On the Driver tab is the Roll back driver button lit up or not? Try clicking on Update Driver and choose Automatic method.

If no Display adapter is listed or Standard VGA (placeholder from installer) then what are the hardware ID's given using the trace method here: Hardware Identification

ok my 420m is listed and i right clicked and looked for drivers online and it says it's up to date. that's sort of impossible since i never updated it, i've been unable to

I'm not sure why that VGA is also listed in my image?

This is very strange. It appears you still have the installer's placeholder Standard VGA Driver installed in Device Manager even after the actual Display device's Nvidia driver has been installed.

Look at the General tab on both devices to see which one is working - looks like both.

Try on Driver tab uninstalling Standard VGA to see if it will reinstall at reboot or defer correctly to the Nvidia.

If this fails and Standard VGA reinstalls at reboot, then on Driver tab, select Update Driver, then Browse, then Let Me Pick.. and select the Nvidia driver from list to see if it will install to correct the problem. If not, try disabling VGA driver.
