Windows 7: Upgrading 32 bit to 64 bit windows 7 and CD wont execute.

Hey everyone, im having a problem here. Im trying to upgrade my 32 bit home premium to 64 bit professional.
I bought the new key from the student website and downloaded the files and extracted them. Then i burned those files onto a DVD and restarted my computer and modified the BIOS to have the first start priority to be the rom drive. The problem is that it seems nothing is executing when the CD is executed and it just goes right to the currently installed OS. Is there something i am doing wrong here? I used the standard windows burner, is there something i need to click to make the CD executable?

First you cant "upgrade" from 32bit to 64. You need to do a clean install.

Second you dont extract files then burn to dvd you take the ISO file and burn it to dvd.

Ok, how do i do a clean install? I know everything is going to be wiped, i just dont know how to execute a clean install.

I have both CD's, one with the extracted files and the other with the downloaded .box applications (The windows download doesn't have a download option for .iso form). Neither seem to work.

Burn the ISO file which you downloaded to DVD using ImgBUrn at 4x speed. ImgBurn - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

If it fails, download another and try again.

You can also write to flash stick using Universal USB Installer with Windows 7 in dropdown menu. Boot under USB, Removable or HD's in one-time BIOS Boot Menu - set HD to boot first in BIOS setup.

Delete the OS 32bit partition using this tutorial:
Partition the Hard Drive in a Windows 7 Install
Install 64bit using this tutorial:
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

Thanks alot for this. I used the burning tool to make a bootable CD from the extracted files i downloaded off of Microsoft's website. Worked like a charm after that!

I really wish Microsoft would just let us download ISO files instead of .box files. Its really inconvenient.

I haven't heard of box files being offered since Digital River caused an uproar by issuing them instead of ISO's at Windows 7 release. MS only offers ISO's that I've seen.

May I ask which burning tool can make an ISO out of box files? ImgBurn can only burn the ISO (flawlessly) or extract an ISO from disk as far as I know.
