    F11 does not work

I do not have a recovery disk, but was told that I can use F11 on start up.
    But that has no effect.
When exactly shall I use F11? And for how long?
I saw somewhere that I shall press F11 when I see the DOS screen. I don't see a DOS screen.¨
    Hope someone can help me.
    Thanks

Hello ngr, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm assuming that you are trying to do a factory recovery??

If so, what brand and model is your desktop or laptop computer? We may be able to look up more detailed instructions on how to from the manufacturer's site. :)

    Hello and thanks
I don't know what it is called, but I want the same effect as if I had formatted my HD.
    It's a Pavillon dv7
    with a RECOVERY partition
    s/n: CNF9300452

I did this: After start up there is a black screen and when tha changes to an almost black screen, it start tapping the F11 until HP's logo shows up.
But as before that it says in the left bottom corner something like:
F11: Recovery, and that diasappears very soon.
And after all that, it just starts windows.

Here's the link from HP below on how to with more details. You'll need to keep tapping F11 when you boot the computer to start the system recovery process.

If able, doing it using the HP Recovery Manager from within Windows 7 would be easier.

    Hope this helps,

The link above will give you more details on this. :)

You would start tapping F11 as soon as you restart during boot up.
In Windows 7, there should be a "Recovery Manager" shortcut in your Start Menu by default unless removed by you.

    - and then it starts window
Google will not be of any help.

Are you able to use the HP "Recovery Manager" shortcut in your Start Menu from in Windows 7?
