    Windows 7 re-install limit

    How do I know how many re-installs I can do with my win7 x64 disk. I plan on purchasing an SSD drive. I know I have the option of moving the current install to the new drive, but have no clue how. Ideally I'd like to reformat and re-install, because, a lot of files where misplace.renamed as I was in the process of learning the new OS.

    Any and all help is appreciated

    thank you

    I do clean installs all the time....I can't even speculate how many times I've used the same DVD and USB installers! Don't worry about it. :)

    Until your Hard Drive fails, Disk Drive fails, or your Activation Key Expires.

    You own a retail Win7 OS for life to reinstall as many times as you like and move to whatever machine you wish - except for OEM which is locked to the first mobo.

    Back up the Product Key permanently, extract the DVD ISO using ImgBurn and back it up with Downloads.

    thank you all, apparently someone was talking out their arse. :)

    @gregrocker, you mean OEM versions can be reinstalled as long as it's the same mobo?

    Yes, retail and factory OEM are locked to first mobo installed but can be reinstalled as often as you want and using a Win7 retail installation DVD even if your OEM didn't give you one.

    Here are tips for getting a perfect reinstall of factory OEM: Reinstalling Windows 7

    @gregrock

    I'm not quite sure of how many things on this link work Reinstalling Windows 7? Before I post anything specific, I wanted to make sure with you?

    thanks

    Yes they've worked for tens of thousands of users who have used the mini-tutorial.

    Do you have any specific questions rather than just asking if my steps for clean reinstall work?
