Xp32 to Win 7 64 bit

Help required before i totally lose it . Tried all sorts of stuff. I.m getting the error message "this disc isnt compatible with your version of wondows . To upgrade you need the correct installation disc . For more information , Check your computer,s system information . To install a new copy of windows , restart(boot) your computer using the installation disc, and then select custom (advanced


Already saved my stuff to a external hd . Tried changing the bios to boot from CD and changed from ide to AHCI but not sure if i,ve done that right . Also changed the timings from the cd drive from 0 to 15 seconds


Motherboard is a gigabyte p43 -es3g . Disc i got cheap from a student discount site but looks fine

As you've seen, to run the Win7 X64 upgrade, you have to boot the machine from the DVD. You can't launch the DVD from within 32 bit Windows.

I have no idea why you're having trouble setting the boot order to boot from the DVD drive first. Is the disk a retail upgrade copy?

My own preference would be to do a one-time change in the boot order. On your motherboard, that's invoked by F12.

Gave up on the bios and put it back to default as it was starting weird and not starting up properly .

Disc doesnt do anything at all when i reboot like its supposed to after reasearching the windows website . disc drive definately works

Forgot to mention that the pc just loads up with XP as normal . Disc drive starts up and then nothing although it shows in my computer that the disc is actually there and if i double click it thats when i get the error message

Yes tried that . All looks so simple but cant get it to work . I,m positive its to do with the bios . I,m sure if i could get a copy of it on here i would get an answer . As i said i dont really have a great knowledge of that

Did you burn the DVD yourself? If so confirm the ISO download by size, then burn another DVD using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool. Boot by tapping the key given for Boot Menu on first boot screen, or set BIOS to boot DVD drive first: How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD - Boot to CD

Then choose Custom install, using Drive Options to delete all partitions and click Next. Clean Install Windows 7

If this fails write to flash stick using tool linked above, boot under USB, Removable or HD's on one-time BIOS Boot Menu key, with BIOS setup boot order set to boot HD first.
