    Partition allocation

    Hello,

I'm going to fix my partition set-up (for example removing the one with Vista) and would like to know how much I should allocate to the partition with 7. (At the moment it's 32 GB.)

I am going to keep my files on a different partition. But what about the "program files"? Is it "better" to have them on the same partition as windows 7 or not? How big "should" the 7 partition be?

    Thanks!

My current c: partition takes up 36gb and thats including a load of programs such as Office.

I usually leave program files alone for compatibility reasons in case there are any programs that are hard wired to c:\program files.

    Windows 7 will install on 16GB - it does prefer 20GB .

I decided on 48GB for the Win7 RTM from Technet with MOST apps, no hibernation file and pagefile moved to another HDD.

Prior upgrades from 7100>7127>7232 had required ~20GB FREE space (some reported less). This may not be true for post RTM upgrades but WINSXS tends to grow, HDD space cheap and moving apps to recover space is a PIA.

I have a second partition for non-critical apps which are HDD space hogs (i.e. EMC10) and games. STEAM gets its own partition. These I can move around at will.
