Windows 7 Installation Problems

Hi, I've been trying to install Windows 7 for some time now but get problem after problem. First it said "A required CD/DVD Driver Device Is Missing ect...."no avail at fixing that one I then went to the USB route, that worked as I was able to get a bootable copy on USB BUT now I purchased a new drive Seagate Barracuda ATA-300. It will detect the drive in bios and on the bootscreen but not in My Computer or Disk Managment. It will however detect in Windows installation but states "Windows Could not create a partion on disk 1 the error occured while preparing the portion selected for installation ERROR CODE 0x80070017"

Then I also get this "Windows is unable to install to selected location ERROR 0x80300024"

Thanks to anyone who can help.

By the way I'm upgrading from XP if that makes a difference

you can't upgrade from XP, you can only do a custom, clean install. back up all your data and run the disc again choosing "custom"

Yes, when it boots up in Windows Installation the drive is detected I beleive it says the drive is unportioned, it wont let me format from installation and when I try to continue I get the above Error messages.

Your drive is unpartitioned. You have partition your hard drive. You cant Install windows 7 in the the whole hard drive....

Partition the drive using the Windows 7 boot disk and then chose one of the primary partition to Install Windows 7.

Some HDDs may come with a manufacturer's CD/DVD, which has to be used for initial 'set-up'.

May or may not be true for 'modern' HDDs.

If there's a mfr CD, read the docs.

May need low-level format, or whatever they do, using the CD...

PS
There's been some 'bad words' regarding some models of "Seagate Barracuda",
freeze-up or something...
