The Win7 on SSD does not yet hold the System flag. Have you run Startup Repair 3 times?

Try clicking on Disk 2 to highlight it, then from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR, Apply. This may preclude the need to run the 3 Repairs.

But as stated you need the System flag on the SSD Win7 partition.
Highlighted "Disk 2" several times. Rebuild MBR is an available choice. After rebuild, choosing the 2 partitions > Modify > Flag greyed-out.

Highlighting "Disk 2" any number of times, right click, Rebuild MBR is always available as an option. However, doing so has nil affect.

Paul, It looks like you are still booting off the bootmgr on the HDD. If Greg thinks it can be fixed with the 'standard' procedure, go with that. If not, I would try from scratch. In that case, post back and I advise you what to do.

Question, do you have the Paragon Migration Tool? It is not required, but would make things easier.

I gave you the steps 2 weeks ago to do this and they ave still not been completed fully. Do you have questions about getting these steps done?

Power down to unplug the HD, set SSD first to boot in BIOS setup,

Boot PW CD, rightclick Win7 partition to Resize, drag left grey border to the left to take up unallocated space, OK.

Next rightclick on Win7 partition, select Modify>Set to Active, OK.

Now click on the Disk # to highlight it, from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR, Apply all steps, reboot. This may preclude the need to run Startup Repair 3 separate times to write the System boot files to Win7.

If not boot into Win7 DVD Repair console to run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Win7 boots on its own and holds the System Active flags.

Power down to plug back in the HD, boot it if needed using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first boot screen.

It is booting off the SSD, the HDD has been disconnected since following Greg's procedure.

Yes, I have the Paragon Migration Tool.

    Hello Greg,

I have attempted several time to follow your instructions. I purchased the pro version of PW, produced a PW boot disk, disabled the HD, right clicked on Windows 7 partition, selected Resize. The resize icon appears, but no grey area and nothing to slide to resize. I tried increasing size of Windows 7 partiton (thereby reducing size of Unallocated space partition) using the text field, but could only get down to about 22 mb of unallocated space after clicking OK, so I did not click "Apply."

At that level, PW sez the partition has Red Flag. However, when booted into Windows, PW sez no Red Flag.

What I'm experiencing now is when booted into Windows 7 on SSD, for 3 to 5 minutes when executing something such as typing an email, accessing a website, the spinning donut symbol indicating "wait" is present for 3 to 5 minutes. Then all is okay for a while.

Right now the SSD is disconnected and booted from the HD. All is fine.

    Regards, Paul.

The illustrated steps shown here to Resize are the same for all versions: http://www.partitionwizard.com/parti...artitions.html

We use freeware here when possible and free PW CD is the best manager by far having never failed in thousands of partitioning operations we've helped with here.

Thank you, that seemed to work. So far, no lockups.

When I add in the HD, should I mark it "Inactive," or do anything else?

It depends on if you want to be able to boot the HD. If so leave it the same but when you plug it back in keep the SSD set first drive to boot in BIOS setup. Then boot the HD using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key which on Gateway is F10.

As long as you keep the SSD set first to boot in BIOS setup it doesn't matter if the HD is marked System Active. But if you plan to get rid of the OS on it I would move the data off then wipe it with Diskpart Clean Command before repartitioning in Disk Mgmt.

Thanks for your good information and help, Greg. I'm a very happy camper right now. No issues so far, and the system is lightening FAST, so I'll leave things alone now. I'm an amateur photographer and use programs like Photoshop and several utilities. I've been holding off loading programs on the SSD until the system is working properly. Now that things are working properly, I'm going to start loading the programs.

Thanks to other who have also been helpful.

This site is a wonderful resource. I come back daily to enjoy reading through the many threads. Very interesting and helpful.

Thanks for putting up with me.

    Regards,

    Paul.
