well i did tried disconnecting every hardware and then reconnecting...but my problem still persists.

when i boot my copmuter in the bios i can see " detecting 160 gb....IDE hdd"..however my hdd is wd SATA 160.

Does it have anything related to AHCI and IDE settings in BIOS??

yes.. i tried installing 3 diffeent dvds...and two among them are genuine.

my entire hardware is new...just bought 5 days back....i think there is some setting in bios which is causing trouble..and that setting is tricky i suppose...i wok in sun and ibm servers but now i cant even trouble shoot this simple problem...i am feeling damn bad for myself...

for formatting the hdd it takes so long...it craws at the pace of tortoise...
