I would tend to also think this is where you came unstuck. You could of course do another "auto everything" install and expect a sensible partition structure. You can then change this if you want.

The problem you run into if you let the installer do the partition allocation is that you end up with a huge C partition which is not easy to shrink sufficiently with Disk Management. And using tools like the bootable CD of Partition Wizard is not obvious for everybody either.

Having a dual core has nothing to do with partitioning, only whether or not it can run a 64 bit OS. Which today is commonplace.

That is what I found odd. Normally you just let the computer do it's own thing. When it asked me I presumed I just needed the two as I did not want 500GB on one drive. The computer asking the question was the downfall

Ok guys. I have been on to my supplier and they have offered to take it back and either fix or replace it.
I am sorry to have put you all to so much trouble. I hope it will now being sorted.

To be honest, it's what I would have done right away, but then hindsight is a wonderful thing.

That is the embarrassing thing, I had ordered the computer for friend and said I would get it set up and ready to go, because she does not know anything about computers. I am beginning to wonder about myself now.

I shouldn't worry too much.

It takes some doing to repair a computer that is faulty from the outset so just let your supplier repair or replace it, and then show your friend how to set it up.

There's no point in beating yourself up over a thing that you can't control. Just console yourself with how much you're learning from Windows Seven Forums.

Nice plane by the way. I remember seeing the odd one in the Sixties when I was in the Air Cadets, together with all the V Bombers. Circuits and Bumps! don't remind me

It's an aircraft I worked on in the 1960s and is the only airworthy version at present. If you want to see the best static display I'd recommend the Fleet Air Arm Museum near Ilchester, Somerset or Duxford just off the M11 near Cambridge.
