Hp partition

I currently have a HP_RECOVERY PARTITION which is the only thing I have and which is set to active. Upon booting the system comes with winload.exe not found thing. I have checked the RECOVERY partition and discovered that there is no winload.exe in \WINDOWS\system32\.

What do I do.

You might find there is a .wim file on the recovery partition - that may be what is supposed to be booting.

Can you be a bit more specific?

What exactly is on the recovery partition - can you post a screenshot of it's contents?

Please furnish a more detailed information about your problem.

Do you mean to say that your hard disk has only HP_RECOVERY PARTITION and nothing else? Please also post a screenshot of the partitions on your Hard Disk if you can.

I have these two files which are in the HP_RECOVERY partition.
C:\sources\boot.wim
C:\preload\base.wim

Can I use them to do a factory restore.
Thank you.

It looks like you have the right files.

What you need to do is get boot.wim to boot - it will load into memory.

Boot.wim will contain a restore program of some kind - that restore program should know where install.wim is - and apply the image - probably using imagex .

If you cannot boot from that drive - it may be you have not set something up correctly.

A screenshot of disk mgmt window would help.

If you cannot boot into Windows 7 then get a cam snap of free Partition Wizard bootable CD's drive map and listings. Or just type them out in full.

In case you haven't noticed, Greg.

There is a new version of PW - supports gpt.

As far as I know it still uses legacy alignment - bit of a shame.
