Unable to install win 7 64 on ssd while connected to sata 3 port

I am building a htpc but cannot seem to get windows to install onto my SSD.

The SSD is visible in BIOS and on the 'where do you want to install windows' screen.

I am wondering if that is because the OS cannot install to my mobos sata 3 ports

I have
crucial m4 SSD 4GB
MSI H61MA-E35 with usb3/sata3

The sata 3 ports are ASmedia according to the manual.

i think i know where this is heading and will be fairly annoyed if so because i bought this board specifically for the sata 3 boot drive option.

Help me out!

EDT, i am in ACHI mode for both the sata 3 and sata 2 ports

have tried IDE on the Sata 3 AS media port and it is installing.

So the question is

Is it better to install the OS on
the sata 2 intel ports in AHCI
or
the sata 3 ASmedia ports in IDE?

I'd say the ASmedia ports in AHCI.

That would require finding drivers for the Asmedia 1061 SATA controller, and then installing them during the Windows installation.

I didn't find them at MSI, but Asus has some:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P8H61 PRO

I'm not certain that the Asmedia controller will be usable with the boot drive, but it looks likely to be OK.

As the MSI H61MA-E35 has a uEFI BIOS.

It does boot in IDE mode, will the ASUS drivers work with this MSI board ok? Install them during? the windows installation?

looks like i dont really know too much about the quirks of OS insatll!
