Upgrading hard drive help required

Hi All,

I am trying to upgrade the hard drive which has my operating system on it.
I disconnect all drives except the one which has the operating system and the new drive which will replace the old one.
I use Norton ghost to copy from the old to the new but when i connect the new drive only it does not boot into windows.
I beleive i have to make the partition of the new drive as active but at what stage do i have to do this?
Do i just have the new drive plugged in and then change the drive to active?
Can someone please explain exactly what i need to do.

Cheers

Yes it has to be active. And is ghost copying the system reserve partition to the new drive ?
Also you may want to try doing a startup repair with your install disc up to 3 times.

Create a bootable disc with partition wizard. I`m sure there is a tutorial here that will explain how to make it. Boot with the disc and it should show your harddrive. Right Click on your harddrive, click modify and set the drive to active. Click apply ( wait for it to say the task was completed successfully ) then exit out of disc and reboot. Then you can try a startup repair with your Windows 7 install disc.

Did you backup all partitions?
If Yes.

Boot up using the Startup Repair CD or Windows 7 DVD. (not the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disk) If you have a Netbook, you will need a CD/DVD drive.
NOTE: Make sure no USB drives are plugged in.
Do not use a USB Pendrive for Startup Repair.

Do a Strartup Repair:

Note: You may need to do startup repair 3 to 4 times.
