Windows 7: Windows 7 x64 installs and runs slowly

Ok So I did more checking and found out that I did not have the most up to date BIOS. Apparently I was reading the release date wrong. It was listed as 08/06/11 where 08 was the year. A little confusing to me (and maybe some others as well) but this being the first time I've ever had to flash a BIOS you can call me a newb. That being said I did flash the BIOS and it was super easy after gathering all the facts and verifying the information. Worked like a charm.

Neither Elitegroup nor Microsoft lists a BIOS flash as a needed to run a 64-bit OS but it seems it is needed. If anyone would like more info about this all I found was right here:ECS X58B-A Review Page 4 - Closer Look (The Bios) - Overclockers Club

In that article he does not use the latest BIOS update however I did and it works great.

Thanks, Greg for your effort and help.

I hope this is able to help others who have the same board or issues.

I had exactly the same issue with a system i built for a friend with an ECS Black Series board for Intel core i7 a while ago, but it was windows vista at that time, windows ran like $hit on a clean install with bios defaults loaded, then i flashed to latest bios and performance went up to correct levels.

that is great to know. I wish I had run across a thread or bit of information that says this earlier then i wouldn't have beat my head against a wall for about 3 months. Lucky for me that it was my wife's comp and not a customers. As in she was OK with waiting.

Still so far since the BIOS flash and the reinstall the only thing I had to do is update the chip-set and graphics drivers as she got the BSOD running a few games. Since the driver updates no issues. Though the 2 largest system fans still aren't running, the CPU fan runs and 2 other fans are running. i think it is due to the Cool n Quiet that is built in. I haven't had any overheating issues and it's been running constantly. So I'll address that issue if it becomes one.
