    32 bit drivers on Windows 7 64 bit


    is it okay to have 32 bit drivers on windows 7 64 bit? sorry, newbie here.
    and btw what are the cons of running 32 bit applications on 64 bit?

    No. 32bit drivers are restricted to user mode only...or in otherwords. 32bit drivers do not function on 64bit.

    There are only a very few 32 bit apps that have problems with the 64 bit OS.
    Mostly they work just they would in a 32 bit OS.

    oh i see, because after reformatting then clean installing win 7 x64 and used my laptop's driver installer I noticed in the processes list that there are programs running with *32 at the end of the name.

    Many programs install in 32 bit on a 64 bit OS - you'll find them in the 32 bit Programs folder.

    This is not the same as drivers, which are bit-version specific. Look on the computer or Device's Support Downloads webpage for the driver bit-version you need. If it's not listed, you may still find it via Google.
