Windows 7 - Windows setup failed to configure on your hardware??!!

I am typing on my phone so hopefully you know my situation just by that!

I had just replaced my hard drive from my sony vpccw29gx. It was corrupt. I bought a different brand hard druve, but same rpm.

I ordered the recovery disks from sony. I installed the disks, but after the windows 7 installed, it restarted, then when it booted, it sais "starting services", then said windows could not install on my hardware.

I calldd sony back, and they sent me ANOTHER set that were supposedly the right ones. I went through the process and yet again, the error came up.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Please bring it to the notice of Sony again. They are supposed to set up your OS if you are having problems. Normally Windows 7 Setup is smooth and trouble free. This may be due to some wrong entry in the BIOS. Running the Sony Hardware Diagnostic Tool as already suggested may help in pin-pointing it.

I suspect the Sony BIOS. Their BIOS is extremely retarded. I had a lot of problems with their VPCF 1390X to the point that I had to return it and get my money back. Never again would I buy any Sony laptop. It is just ridiculous what they do with the BIOS.

I would ask Sony to tell you which HDDs are compatible and maybe you then can exchange the one you have now. I did, however, get an OCZ Vertex2 to run on mine.

I'm typing this on a Sony VAIO I just reinstalled for a neighbor which has no USB boot ability and no setting in BIOS which even references USB.

See if you can at least reset to defaults on your Sony BIOS (this one can't) or use another method: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Then wipe the HD before trying to run Factory Recovery again: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Then I'd test the HD using maker's diagnostics/repair extended CD scan, and Memory using Memtest86 CD scan for 5-6 passes.

If this fails you can work with Sony Tech Support to take further steps including possibly RMA'ing the machine, or you can try clean reinstalling Windows 7 using a Windows 7 installer with the Product Key on COA sticker: Reinstalling Windows 7 . This is a much superior install anyway.
