Odd Installation problem-- volmgrx.sys/tcpip.sys?

Well I just got a hard drive installed on my 64 bit system. I Burned the x64 ISO loaded the DVD and started the computer (x64). Once all the files were "loaded" it goes to the starting windows screen then changes to "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause...blah blah..."
Then it says
"1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer"


blah blah..

File: \windows\System32\drivers\volmgrx.sys

Status: 0xc0000017

Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt"

So I've tried to boot in safe mode and it loads all the way to another missing or corrupt file \windows\System32\drivers\tcpip.sys

I've also seen it missing the file partmgr.sys

I tried reburning the downloaded ISO but that also didn't work...any thoughts? This is on a HP DX5150 SFF x64. TIA!

Often thats caused by a bad iso either in dl'ing or burning. If I were you I would download it again and burn it at a slow speed. Also if we had your system specs (in lower left corner) I could tell much more. If you have alot of ram pull most (leave yourself 1-2 gigs) I will check back in a few to see your specs

well it's a HP DX5150 AMD 3500+ Single Core with 1GB memory, I'll try the redownload, couldn't hurt

bump I was able to use a windows XP boot CD to create a partition on the HD but even after that I tried again with the first 7 x64 DVDs I initially used but had the same problem.

that's correct, I have another one on download as we speak so I'll give that a shot too, just don't want to keep wasting DVDs

Update:

I redownloaded the ISO, and burnt it to two DVDs using different burn software both at low speed. neither work, but they both gave my missing/corrupt driver "volmgr.sys" unlike the "volmrgx.sys" I was previously getting. Still neither safe mode nor any other advanced option boot works.

Could this all be hard drive related? Because I just bought this drive off ebay since the tower didn't come with one, just odd I was able to start an XP installation on it. TIA!

try to wipe the hard drive... all zeros. Then reinstall.

there are many ways to zero out a drive. Maybe with the manufacturers own boot disk utility.

Or a linux CD/DVD run a command like dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda

where hda = hard disk A or
hdb = hard disk B (don't make the mistake of wiping the wrong drive!)

This will not necessarily fix a bad hard drive but it will make sure there are no bad bits in the boot sector or partition table and such.

I'd recommend Spinrite if it didn't cost $89.00 (might as well buy a new drive). but if you can obtain a copy somehow, it might determine whether or not your problem is related to a bad hard disk.

dunno why this would play a factor but i swapped the sata cable to the other port on the MB and it worked but got stuck at a 7 wallpaper and nothing else, this was all before setup started just the files loaded
