    benifits of UEFI?

so i recently installed windows 8 on a spare hdd, and noticed that the 64bit version is UEFI (unified extensible firmware interface) basicly it gets rid of the 16 bit bios in favor of a native 64 bit boot volume.

anyway i checked my hardware and found i had support for it and thought...oh hell why not try it with windows 7 64(32 bit isn't supported).

now aside from the rather odd windows loading screen i can't yet get any real gains in terms of boot speed, it is faster just well not that fast.

so what is the benifit, i've heard from the guys that created UEFI and they explained what it does in an interview, right now i can't see much benifit but maybe thats due to hardware i'm not using rather than what i have.

maybe i had hopes it would boot as quick as windows 8 does i'm not sure if it is suppose to or not though.

so what do other people think if of it?

Two benefits I saw while reading up on this.

    1. You can use a mouse with UEFI BIOS.
    2. Support for 3TB drives.
