You need to run a startup disc that repairs the boot manger.

You'll need to convert the HD first to a Basic disk, which can be done non-destructively only using Partition Wizard bootable CD version 4.2 in which conversion to basic is still a free feature: pw422.zip ISO - Windows Live . Burn to CD, boot, choose conversion from Disk tab.

I would still not depend upon the HD you are installing upon to back up your data. Offload it to external or other internal HD, DVD, another computer on the network, or MS Skydrive which hosts 15gb per Windows Live ID.

You will also need to use the tool like Partition Wizard to reorganize your partitions.
You can have a maximum of 4 primary partitions on a basic disc.
If you want more partitions you can create 3 primary and make the 4th an Extended Partition. Within the Extended Partition you can effectively have as many logical drives as you like. See the tutorial
