Unable to install across partitions
Hi
I have Samsung netbook which came with Windows 7 Starter.
When it was new about of the box it was partitioned C:\ operating system and installed program files and D:\ all personal files (music, photos etc.) so that the os can be imaged and restored leaving the personal stuff untouched. All downloads go to D:\, but any installation files or auto-zip installers are unable to run. I had assumed this was an awkward restriction for Starter but it has now been upgraded to Ultimate (after a fresh install of Starter) and this very annoying problem persists as any auto-run installers fail. I have the same C:\ D:\ set up on a Dell laptop with W7 Ultimate without any of these problems.
Some internet have found suggest the problem may be restriction on Temp folders, but if I've taken ownership and allowed everything on all that I can find with out any effect.
I'm now guessing that there is either some setting on the D:\ partition that stops it sending to C:\ or that C:\ won't allow D:\ to write to it.
I can always move the Downloads location to to C:\ or possibly delete and recreate D:\ but I'd really like to know what the problem is and fix it.
Thanks
