It sounds like you are trying to use the same key twice. If this is correct we cannot offer help, with that situation.
We can try to get you back to your original Operating system if you did not format the restore partition, however.
Try to boot your computer while pressing f9

You should be able to run Asus factory Recovery from boot following the steps given in your Manual found on the Asus Support Downloads webpage for your model.

Otherwise you'll need to order Asus Recovery media to boot and reinstall Starter.

You can also find a Starter version ISO to burn to DVD or write to flash stick and clean reinstall Starter with the Product Key on the COA sticker on the machine: Clean Reinstall Windows 7 Factory OEM

One other option is that you can buy Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate and try it's key but it is unlikely it will work until you go back to Starter and then insert the Key into Anytime Upgrade. This is because the Anytime process is different than the clean install your friend did to upgrade you to a version of Win7 that you do not yet own.

You can restore to factory settings again at some time in future if you need to.

Starter or Basic (System Resources)
Hi, Regarding System Resources. Is it true that Windows 7 Starter/Basic Editions uses less System Resources compared to the other editions? Or is it only that it has less features, etc.? Thanks in advance. Regards,
