If you have another HD it is best to dual boot via BIOS with OS's on separate HD's. Unplug XP while you install Win7, then set preferred to boot first in BIOS, use Boot Menu key for other.

Otherwise to put them both on one HD: Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

Here are some tips to get a purrfect install: re-install windows 7

    Your totally right!
    I can't believe I didn't think of this before!

I let my friend borrow my old HD.
I might stop by tomorrow and pick it up so I can just install 7 on there instead.
    It's a 160 GB so it's perfect!

    windows 7 fix

Well im not sure exactly how many different types f dell optiplex gx280 but
i have seen a tall one n a smallone i have a small one but i installed windows 7 and
it worked i think they all have penium 4 prossesers at leat have one
but make sure abut it is 32-bit disk if it is not it might not work but you mght be able to overclockthe prossser and try 64-bit but it might break o overheat so if you
really want windows 7 ou can try 64-bit but be carefull i think
you should see if i is a 32-bi disk but try booing up the disk on windows or try to
to boot to the windows disk or put the windows disk in the computer then boot it
up and then try to call micosoft hey might be able o fix it
