    fibble

we could use info on your current setup. did install complete or crash during install. where does it crash before or after the starting windows screen.

99% of failed installs are from bad dvd's

Where did you download yours, and how did you burn it? waht app did you use to burn it to dvd?

all system specs listed in profile install runs fine untill first reboot and thenn hangs at the loading windows screen after around 30secs the kbaord lights go out and nothing else happens i have left it for around 30-50mins i think its the oem x86 burnt at 2.4x using image burn

o btw guys shud i be using x86 or x64 with my cpu as i had lots of issues with vista x64 (only when gaming)

W7 seems to be having a lot of issues with older storage drivers. I'd make that #1. See if you can get updated storage drivers for that motherboard. If it were an intel ship set then there are definately new storage drivers that have to be installed.

You can also try going to the hardware manager and to each sata adapter channel and turn off Native Command Queing on each that has a drive attached and see if that helps.

um not all but enough. I was looking for storage to see if you had a raid, and to find out if the install completed or crashed during it

Welcome back Fibble, how was your party?
If I remember you were having issues with multiple drives attached, both SATA and IDE?
As I'm reading I suggested to remove the IDE and go with 1 SATA drive and I'm assuming you have done this?
As in regards to the choice of X86 or 64 thats entirely your choice.
There have been issues with the ISO image, apparently if the image is burnt to fast it tends to corrupt during install. I would suggest downloading RC1 or whichever version you prefer and using ISO Burn use the slowest burn speed at the beginning, do this on a 32 bit machine if possible.

Flibble, try the x86 version to see if it eliminates the problem. I had the same issue with a AMD x64 4200+, it will simply not run the x64 version, although it is a 64bit processor and it runs other 64bit OS's. Yours being a previous model, it might be the same issue. I had to replace the CPU, but just because I was stubborn to get 64 bit running.

I had the same issue whith installing Vista Ultimate on a WD Sata HD. The problem simply was the HD. It was rather by mistake that I used another HD after a while of fruitless attempts to fix the prob.
BTW: the very same HD (the "faulty" one) gave me a SMART warning not very long time after that (mounted in another rig) and passed away during the same boot.

It's only a guess but maybe you wish to try another disc.

    Cheers
    Edit: ASUS mobo
