    Loading Operating System... at boot-up

I just set up a Crucial SSD and it was working fine. The HDD had 7 on it previously and I couldn't format it for some unknown reason--couldn't get rid of the 100 MB partition, etc. Made it Dynamic in frustration and that really messed me up.

So I took the HDD out and put it in an XP computer, so I could format it. While doing so I booted the SSD and didn't notice a problem and, again for some unknown reason, it booted from a CD with the SSD Firmware update. I'm positive this is a Linux boot. When I saw it it was asking yes or no and I said no and it quit with an A:\ prompt! Does that sound like Linux?

So now when I boot windows, after re-doing a clean reinstall of 7, the BIOS does it's thing and ends with the AHCL line. Now here comes a line in the top left of the blank screen saying, "Loading operating system..."
Then it goes to the Starting Windows screen.

This "Loading operating system..." shouldn't be there and is not causing any real problem but it is annoying.

Anyone know how I can get rid of it?

The first two questions I would ask are: is the SSD's firmware completely up to date? Is the BIOS up to date with the latest non-beta version?

Also, what is the boot order that you currently have setup in the BIOS?

What mode are you running the drive in (AHCI/IDE)?

I said, "it booted from a CD with the SSD Firmware update", so yes the firmware had been updated.

    SSD first, CD second.

What mode are you running the drive in (AHCI/IDE)?
As I said the AHCL BIOS message was displayed.

But what does any of this have to do with the Linux remnant "Loading operating system"?:)

[QUOTE=gregrocker;1831484]Why are you trying to format the SSD in Windows or even moving it to an XP computer?

What? I didn't say I was trying to format the SSD or moving it to an XP computer. It was the HDD (D) that I moved to the XP computer.

Don't tell me that I can use Diskpart to do anything to clean a HDD (D) that has had 7 installed on it. It can't be done when all the partitions have been deleted in Disk Management. I tried for three hours this afternoon.

All this is just discussing the background as to how I got to the point where I am now getting the "Loading operating system..." message which I do not get on an identical computer.

Your original post is hard to understand with its rambling. Then you are get snippy with volunteers trying to help you which will quickly get you banned if you continue. If you can't explain your problem so that it's easily understood you could at least be nice.

It is indeed possible that leftover Linux remnants are interfering with WIn7. The solution is to wipe the HD before reinstalling. If you cannot use Diskpart then you can install free Partition Wizard and Wipe from the Disk tab after clicking on the HDD.

Once you wipe the HDD it is not possible for Linux code to survive in the boot sector to cause problems as we see here regularly.

It seems you said in many words this: "Is it normal for Loading Operating System during startup?"
Yes it is. All of my Win 7 rigs do that.

Thank you Britton for telling me that. I have five Windows 7 computers and this is the only one that has ever shown the "Loading Operating System..." message. Apparently no one has determined what causes it on some installations and not on others. Since that message (the first time I had ever seen it) is exactly what Linux displayed when I updated the firmware I assumed it was a Linux remnant.

    @gregrocker,
I am sorry you saw my post as rambling. I just was trying to make it clear what I had done. I guess my frustration at working for hours to solve the problem was evident--I should have calmed down before posting.

That's okay, Jambe. I have had posts that suffer from exhaustion, too.

How is performance overall? Do you have any issues to look at besides the loading message?

Most Linux corruption we see is from GRUB code in the boot sector. It's always best to wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command before installing where GRUB has been.

Jambe I suspect that some mainboards handle the hand-off from BIOS to Windows in different ways.
