Windows 7 Home Premium won't boot from disk

    Hi there,

I'm trying to reinstall Windows 7 on my computer. For some reason, it works on the computer I've got right next to me, but it doesn't work on my computer. I've set the boot device to the optical drive in the BIOS configuration, and I've tried other CD's that might make things different. I've got it from America, as I've just moved to England and had it shipped over, and am trying to use a British installation disc for it. I've got the product key and everything I need and the installation discs have the stuff on it. I know this because I booted my Nana's computer from the DVD and it works.

What am I supposed to do to fix this problem?

    Thanks so much,

    Paul

Thanks I can try it, but if that doesn't work, how would I go about doing something about the optical drive?

Do other cd/dvds work OK when they are inserted ? Is the device recognised by the Bios ?

Yes, every single one. I tried booting an Ubuntu 11.10 disc and it worked, so the drive's not the problem, I don't think :P

I might also want to mention that when I put it in the drive, it won't even show up in the Windows environment...

OK teenaviator, this next information is courtesy of Jonathan_King and Dave76

    Problem: Missing CD/DVD Drivers...

    What to try:
Change the BIOS setting from IDE to AHCI or RAID (if your planning to use RAID).

AHCI is for SATA components, HD, DVD etc.
If AHCI or RAID is set in the BIOS it will install the drivers.

Windows 7 is trying to find IDE drivers for a SATA DVD.

Change the BIOS and try the install again.

Some users have also reported that they solved this problem by deleting the recovery partitions that came with the computer.

If you still have problems with the DVD drive try installing with a USB memory key: USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

Thanks to Dave76 for the last solution, in this post.

If nothing is working, try clearing your CMOS. There is usually an option in the BIOS to reset to defaults, or something along those lines.

Are you prompted to "Press Any Key to boot DVD?" Try booting DVD using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key.

Try burning the latest official retail installer with SP1 to DVD using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool:

Win7 Home Premium x64 SP1 English Official ISO download
Win7 Home Premium x86 SP1 English Official ISO download

If it fails to boot again write ISO to flash stick, boot under USB, Removable or HD's using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key with HD set first to boot in BIOS.
