Now files missing on external HD!!!

I can't believe it! I FINALLY did a clean install of Windows 7. I made sure I did not have my external HD hooked up. I just hooked it up to see if my family's photos and videos were still on it. EVERYTHING IS GONE! The previous Back Up is Gone! And the folder holding my family photos and video ARE GONE!! What's going on!! I am so pissed!

I did have a virus on the Windows 7 computer. It was something like rough.hdd or something like that. Can it be that it made everything disappear on my external?

Does anyone have any suggestion on what's going on and if there is a way to find the files missing?

    It never ends does it.

The file that is on the external HD is mediaID.bin

mediaID.bin is a file created when you use the backup built into Vista or Windows 7.

Back up and restore: frequently asked questions

    How do I restore files?

You restore files using the Restore Files wizard. You can restore individual files, multiple files, or all files in a backup. You can also restore just your files or files for all people that use the computer. To restore files, see Restore files from a backup.

Here is the screen shots. I hope you're right and that I can still get the photos and video of my family.
I didn't use both DVDs for the Windows 7 restore because it didn't ask for another disk. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Your files appear to be intact. Do the following:
    • Click Start Menu,
    • Click All Programs,
    • Click Accessories,
    • Right Click Command Prompt,
    • Click Run as administrator,
    • Run the following commands:
      F:
      dir /a:h
      dir /a:s
      dir /a
    • Post back a screenshot after running each of the dir commands (it will show hidden files, system files, and then all files).

If there is any personally identifiable information contained in the results of the commands, you do not need to show us. Just let us know if things seem intact and which commands allowed you to see the directories.
