Sorry about that - I just never know how detailed to get.

You probably have better things to do than play with a program that you might not use again - but VirtualBox is one of many programs that will let you create an entire computer and run it just like it was another program on your main computer.

This is a very old 2009 version of VirtualBox - but maybe it will give you an idea where I was headed with my advice:

Are you correctly booting the installer? SP1 shouldn't be involved at all if you are.

Use the ISO and tool for burning DVD or writing flash stick in tutorial I linked.

yeah it looked ok . i booted from the disc and it loaded files. then just after the windows loading screen with the 4 colours u get the blue screen where the wizard is meant to start. it froze on that screen. all that was there was the background image. i did use the windows tool to burn the iso tho but i had the same problem with my original disc whichh is in perfect nick.
ive just downloaded the windows 7 usb/dvd tool and am downloading the iso linked while going through the tut. ive never had any trouble with an install b4 and all my hardware is less than a year old. i'll try it again in a couple of days as my new cpu comes 2moz.

    thanks again for ur help.

that win7 usb/dvd tool is telling me the iso is not valid. at first the download was getting interupted by my av so i disabled that and now is still not right. any ideas?

If you're not allowing the download to complete then that could be your problem all along. Confirm the ISO is complete and write to flash using Universal USB Installer in dropdown menu.

Boot flash stick under USB, Removable or HD's. Let us know how it goes as there are other steps if it stalls again. Start with resetting BIOS to defaults in BIOS setup. While there set SATA controller to AHCI.

Next remove all but 2gb RAM to try install. Test your RAM using RAM - Test with Memtest86+. Swap RAM sticks.

Test your HD with maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan. Then use the utility on the disk to wipe the HD.
