I added steps while you were replying so work through them in order.
What HD diagnostics did you do and what were the exact results. Try the Disk Check if you haven't.
i ask about the bios, becuase when my system was running, before the virus. i had updated the bios to 2.0.. it came with 1.5 i believe.. anyway i believe when i first started getting this boot\bcd error, after about 5 attempts of reinstall, i reinstalled the original bios 1.5
for the diagnostics ive used a few, a couple were on Hiren's BootCD 15.0, and the cmd prompt.. i dont remember what the printed result was. but no issues were found.
Ive done all that, besides the flash install and using the HD makers diagnostics tool.
curious what difference would the flash install make?
windows installed fine, kinds, the OS is working, kinda... its just i need to do a boot repair with the install CD every time i load up.
OH WEIRD THING.. after installing some of the toshiba software last night, and it had to reboot. i got that boot\bcd error.. tried to reboot twice and got it.. was tired.. didnt feel like booting thru the install cd to do the boot repair AGAIN.. so i unplugged the laptop, shut it down. and went to sleep.. when i woke up. and turned it on, it booted str8 to desktop!. but on reboot after that i got error again! argh!
You said you've done "all of that." But did you format a primary partition and mark it Active to try install? This is sometimes necessary when Win7 fails to mark the install partition Active.
If so then boot into free Partition Wizard bootable CD to post back a camera snap of drive map with listings. Or report back which partition is System and Active.
You can also do this by bringing the Win7 partition or 100mb System Reserved partition (if you have it) into focus with Diskpart, then run Detail Partition to see if it's marked Active. If not: Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two)
definitely going to try Partition - Mark as Active..
pretty sure i did it right.. by troubleshooting.. cover your bases.. thx man.. ill let you know sunday when i get back to work
Since you hadn't actually done a key step, I'd go back a work through them from the top this time.
There is no substitute for thoroughness when troubleshooting install problems. Eventually it will get installed but you cannot skip a step.
