Transferring user account with same name.

I want to transfer a complete user account from old to new computer (using windows easy transfer, or other method), but there is already an account with the same name on the new computer and I want to keep that account. I renamed the account on the old machine, but the subfolder under C:\users kept the same name. Tried renaming the subfolder but that detached it from the account altogether.

For security reasons the originally installed Administrative-level Account will not change it's User folder name.

You can try importing the old account anyway to see what happens, however importing User AppData settings is a corruption path so it's always better to start fresh in these cases for best performance.

OK, Thanks. Do you recommend against transferring AppData in general, due to corruption risk? If so, I need to change my whole plan.

Dis the last post, I can see that is what you meant. Do you have any suggestions? Manually copy things like emails, folder by folder?

You are best exporting emails using the export fuction in your mail client.

Then import them using your mail client on the new machine.

I usually transfer my Firefox settings from Appdata - never had a problem with that.

Have a look in appdata local and roaming for mozilla folders.

I use web mail to avoid the whole mess having to be backed up and transferred. Yahoo has stored my mail for years, accessible from anywhere in the world without fail.

When I do an install where user has old-style onboard mail I just google how to transfer their app's mail and settings and never have any problem.
