Unable to install, no error message.

Hi there. I've been trying to get Windows 7 working for a couple days, without success. A friend of mine told me about this forum, so I figured I's try my luck and ask my fellow Windows users.

I have a valid, working copy of Windows 7 build 7000x32 on disk. The same disk has been used on other computers and works fine. However on my machine, it begins the installation just fine, until it reaches the blue Windows 7 background screen. Then it stops. No error, it just stops working.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I find it extremely frustrating.

Installation would fail here too, it would start installing and then just reset, , try removing usb and other non essential devices during install as i read that worked for some people. It didn't for me so i tried flashing the BIOS and it worked, that was the problem for me, my BIOS was more than a year old so check your BIOS version as that might be the problem but depends on each motherboard brand so be careful not to flash unless it is needed.

I have exactly the same problem. I've an intel Quad Q6600, an MSI Neo 2 P35 Board, 4GB Ram, 3 SATA Harddrives and one DVD RW.

I've tried to install the 64 Bit Version of Windows 7 RC1 and unplugged not required USB devices.

I've booted from the dvd until the blue background appears. The mouse is working but nothing else happened. There's also no HD or DVD activity noticeable.

Hi Hotkey, welcome to the forums.

Some people have reported that it's best to just leave the install for about 10 minutes then see what happens. It's about the only thing we can think of at the minute.

Hi!

thanks for the (really) quick answer. I've waited for about 5 minutes the last try. I'm now downloading the iso again and will try it with a new burned DvD. Maybe that helps - i'll report back with the result.

I would advise the slowest speed too, it helps reduce burn errors as the install.wim file is HUGE

And when you try again, let it sit there a good 10 minutes. The first time I installed the RC, it waited about that long and then moved on.

Once it was up and running - and it did eventually get there, a look at the device manager gave a clue. There were a couple of h/w items missing drivers. Maybe Win7 was just waiting for the timeout and it had to do this multiple times.

With more recent builds (currently using 7227), I no longer have device issues as the drivers in the build are "good enough" to get through the install. I do, however, have to visit Nvidia for a video driver and update the NIC h/w driver as well.

So, start the install go grab your a cup'o or something.

Hey. am new here. I'm trying to install windows 7. goes to set up is starting screen and then stays there. if i try to eject my disc after 5 mins gets message that a driver for the CD/DVD drive is missing. i've flashed the firmware to the latest one available. my optical drive is SONY AW-G170A.

still no luck.

What version/build are you attempting to install? And, from where did you get it?

Are you booting from the DVD --> There's no upgrade path from XP to Win7.

As for the 5 minutes - sometimes it takes a little time to get moving.

hey scott,
if it is windows 7 version then it is Windows 7 ultimate RC X64, a complete genuine version. I downloaded and updated the driver version 1.75 which was the only one i was able to find for my dvd rw

I forgot to mention that I'm trying to do a clean install of Win 7 off the DVD and then will try to dual boot. I got the DVD from a friend who is a Microsoft developer.
