Upgrading from 32 bit to 64 bit windows 7

So, I recently upped my RAM capability from 4Gb to 8Gb DDR3. My Processor (a core i3) is 64 bit compatible, and I want to upgrade to 64 bit windows 7.

Just a few things to note here:
I have 2 physical hard drives. a 250Gb one that is my main boot drive, and contains the 32 bit windows 7.
The other is a 320Gb one that was in my old PC before I upgraded, and transferred it over. This second hard drive still contains Windows Vista, and I access files, games and programmes from it regularly.


My question is this, With this set-up is it feasible for me to upgrade to 64 bit? If so, what would be the best way to go about it? (I have read up a bit on microsofts own page).

Back up your files, Unplug the Vista HD, boot the Win7 64 bit installer, delete both partitions on your Win7 HD to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Ignatz I was asking about removing windows vista off my other drive in another thread.

Greg doing that would still allow me to run stuff through the vista HDD, right?

I don't know what you're running on the Vista HD. You said you were accessing your files there via Explorer but had too many to back up to correctly delete Vista and replace them back onto a new data partition. You never said if you're running Programs from Win7 that are installed on Vista. These need to be reinstalled because running programs from another OS is always sketchy even if it works.

ahhh I see what you mean, I think.

Any programmes or files that I used on my old computer I did not reinstall on 7, I kept them on the vista HDD only and run them by accessing the .exe files on that drive.
All my new games and files are stored on the newer 250gb windows 7 drive.

I don't think reinstalling 64 bit Win7 would put you in any different situation than you have now, except that some programs you're running from Win7 on Vista might not run, but they need to be reinstalled to Win7 anyway.

I don't mind reinstalling a couple if they don't work. Mostly I just want to make use of the extra RAM I got.
