SSD OCZ Vertex 2 / Secure Erase

Is it recommended to use the Secure Erase, often ? Once in 2 months ?
Before i do the Fw update, should i Secure Erase ?
And last question : i want to make a fresh install of Windows 7, today. Should i use Secure Erase before that, or not ?
    Thanks.

    Hi,

No, there is no need to do a secure erase - simple choose the format option when you do a fresh install of Windows.

To maximise the life of your SSD, you should avoid a regular secure erase - there is no need for it at all. It holds no benefit for any installation, and just shortens the life span of the SSD.

    I very seriously doubt it.

I updated the firmware on my Intel SSD--all I had to do is burn a disc with the new firmware and boot from the disc.

Secure Erase is a drastic measure to be done very rarely if ever.

Agree with above: Secure Erase is only necessary as a security measure to make sure data is unrecoverable by most methods. It has no benefit for preparing a drive for reinstall.

In rare cases wiping the boot sector with zeroes can overcome code that is blocking install or even a HD's ability to boot, but this can be done with the quick Diskpart Clean Command.
