There is no other computer currently active on the network ... the active user account is 'my' account and the only one currently in use.

I don't know why it wouldn't be listed in Control Panel>User Accounts then. Check again. Click on Manage Another Account.
When I go to manage accounts > manage another account
all I see are the 3 offered at boot up ... i.e Jack (administrator account) Jill (standard user) Guest
