Installation Issues

Hi all I am new here and decided to try to install windows 7 on one of my computers. I Have a Asus A8v mb with an Opteron 2gig processor, 2 gig of memory and an ATI All in Wonder video card. I installed a clean 160 gig hdd and flopped in the DVD.

What happens is I get to where it sez you have to load a driver? I have done everything I can think of to load a driver (?) to get past this screen but it refuses. Of course it doesn't tell me what driver either. So I am shooting in the dark.

I have reset my bios to default to no avail. SOOO I am looking for a wiser one than I.

I have tried both the 64bit and 32bit versions with exactly the same results.

Can someone illuminate me on what to do next?

Thanks

Steve

Try the driver for the hard drive controller (mass storage controller) of your motherboard. In .inf form (not .exe form. If it is in .exe form then you probably need to extract it)

Do you have a Windows XP install disc to try? because it might let you get to the point of hard drive detection (just before installing the OS). If it can't detect any hard drives then it shows that special driver is needed. Although Windows 7 does support some newer SATA/RAID controllers so it is hard to say for sure.

Hopefully someone comes along who owns this same motherboard and can give you a definite answer.

You can:

Run the cd driver in admin and compatibility mode
Go to mfr and get the most recent driver
Uninstall the driver and let windows find it for you

Almost every time I see this issue with the CD driver, it is a bad burn of the Windows 7 DVD. I recommend burning it with IMGBurn at a speed of 4x or less.

Neither of the two new posters told us detailed infor on the hard drives or the DVD drives. IDE or Sata, Mfg & Model. Sure would help if we had more info
