W7 Hang at completing installation 2nd stage - cdrom has bad block

    Hello,

I am stuck at the completing installation stage after reboot. Heres what I've tried:

Removing all but 1 stick of ram
Only have the HDD im installing to plugged in
Using the mobo vga with video card undone
Have all USB devices unplugged ( except keyboard )
Disabling everything in "Other" in device manager
Disabled display driver in device manager

I received this error in the event log: Cd rom has bad block under the administrative tab

    ASUS Sabertooth Z77
    Intel Sandy Bridge i5-2500k
    GSkill 8gig Ares series

    Thanks

Download your licensed version from the tutorial here and burn a new DVD or write the ISO to flash stick using the MS tool provided: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

The steps in the tutorial can also be adapted to get a perfect retail Clean Install.

Just tried this, still no luck and the same error.

    Any other thoughts?

Are you booting the DVD? Where did you get Win7?

How about booting a flash stick installer to get around possible DVD problems?

Try wiping the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command using the installer's Command Line by accessing DISKPART At PC Startup

Could you clarify the word "this"?

"This" being what Gregroker suggested. However, I managed to get W7 installed. I now have a new problem. I cannot get W7 to boot. I think it is a problem with the ram. After getting W7 installed I replaced the 3 remaining sticks that I took out and the video card. Tried to boot up, but got the black screen saying I need to repair the windows installation. Took the video card out again and revieved the same error. Going to try now without the other 3 sticks and see if that is the issue.

    Thanks for everyones input

Replace the sticks one at a time to see which is causing the problem.

You can also test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+ CD for 5-6 passes. Follow the steps to test mobo slots as well.
