BOOTMGR is Missing

Problem is F8 is also the one-time Boot menu key. But on Asus this means you simply tap it again after choosing HD.

No confusion at all, Michael. I'm just waiting for answers to quite a few questions to be able to help here. Maybe someone else can sort it out without them.

Instead of trying to use the one time boot screen to select the desired boot drive, go into to BIOS and change the default order there. On some machines that usually changes the order on the one time boot screen anyway, so you don't have to worry about selecting the boot drive from there, it'll just use the first default.

Another option would be is to go into the BIOS BOOT menu and disable all possible boot drives except the drive you're trying to boot from (don't know if all BIOS's allow this).

I have done the following , and now i am giving you feedback.

Booted a real XP CD - No succsess
Booted XP with USB - No succsess
Made a bootable USB with DBAN to wipe the HDD - No succsess
Booted a System Recovery Repair Disk (made with a Acer Laptop) Successfully made but No succsess in booting.
Booted a Proper Windows 7 Install Disk - No succsess
Booted with a PW Bootable USB + Bootable CD - No succsess

I have even tried removing the HDD and then trying to boot a cd/usb , still no luck.

The only thing i have not tried is removing CMOS/BIOS battery but i dont think its worth a try -plus to get to the battery i have to take the whole computer apart.

The computer is not showing any sign at all for booting from USB / CD

What more options do i have? The drivers for this laptop were a pain in the *** to find because PB is so idiotic that they have not listed my model under support.

I dont think it is possible to reflash bios as the laptop continuously denies booting anything at all and shows that crappy message '' BOOTMGR Missing''

The only option left is to (buy another HDD).

Is this enough feedback? It does not matter what i use to boot because the laptop is not showing any sign at all.

The USB Boot option is not listed in the BIOS when the Flash drive in unplugged.

Can you borrow an external CD/DVD drive to see if that will boot?

What makes you think the problem is your HD if it still won't boot even without the HD attached? Do you have access to another HD to swap in to be sure?

The laptopt im using right now is a Lenovo Thinkpad and the PB HD fits in it and works.

But somehow the USB boot and USB CD rom boot options are excluded from boot order in the bios and i am unable to change the settings for boot order.


Do you know about something that will be able to be installed on USB and will boot without choosing boot order? What i mean is , something that will launch automatically on boot.

And on this Lenovo laptop i still get the bootmgr missing message.

Will the disk and stick boot on Lenovo without the HD inserted?

If so then it is the HD blocking them. It needs to be wiped as code in the boot sector is blocking booting of disks. If PW or DBAN will not autostart then you can slave it using USB adapter cable.

If not then the problem is clearly the disks or stick or the way they are being burned/written. This is why I went around with you on this for quite awhile at beginning. If Download tool doesn't work then use ImgBurn, Universal Installer, or UltraISO trial.

DMBAN is installed with Universal Installer , the others were installed with Ultraiso Full version
