Win 7 can only boot with cd...

Hi!
I recently installed Windows 7 64-bit, and i love it!
The problem however is that i cannot boot up win 7 without the installation disc in the drive.

If i try to boot without disc, it says Bootmgr is missing or something like that...

Also when i look at the discs in Computer management it says that C: (the drive i installed 7 on) is healthy (Boot,page file,active crash dump and primary partition)

While D: (storage) says System,active and primary partition

My point being that are they both supposed to say primary partition?

I don't know it could be completely irrelevant just seemed a bit weird....

the easiest way to fix this is to change the boot order in the BIOS to first point to the drive with the "system" partition. The "system" partition is the one who holds the files necessary to boot up Windows. Therefore the BIOS needs to look at that disk first.

Just FYI, having both partitions as primary is absolutely fine.

If that doesn't work, download EasyBCD and you can fix it using that. Ideally you will write a new MBR and boot manager to the C: drive, making C: the "system" partition and re-selecting that disk in the BIOS.

Hi and welcome to sevenforums

Did you upgrade? Win 7 usually installs all of the system, boot, page, crash dump, and primary on one partition if there is an older OS like XP, or vista and you upgrade it puts a system folder in the old OS so you can dual boot.

The way to repair it is to use bcdedit (built in win 7) and edit the boot loader files. There is an excellent tutorial on using bcdedit in the tut section here on seven forums. Its not rocket science but I do recommend reading it first.
