    Can i Install XP On USB drive


    Hi, i have windows 7 64 bit installed on my pc. I was wondering if it is possabe to install windows XP on a USB drive (NOT SETUP, THE ACTUAL OS) so i can plug it into any computer to boot it up. (Drivers don't matter)

    I do not think you can. This is the close that I have come to finding you out an answer... I have never tried this... Good Luck...

    If you were able to succeed in getting it to install, and luck followed you to let it boot, the performance would be unusable.

    In theory you could maybe if you made the USB bootable then set up xp via ur win7 then make it install on to the USB as if it's a hdd

    Win7 Ultimate 64 bit willl allow you to install XP Mode (Virtual PC) to run xp programs (that are not fully compatible with Win7). Here's the link to its setup and installation.

    thanks but i vas thinking more for gaming. and virtual machines are not to good at that.

    Actually, from my experience, if a game is old enough to only run on XP, it will run fine in a VM, especially if you use one of the apps with 3D support.

    I believe VMWare offers it, and I know it is an option to enable in VirtualBox.

    The problem with many of those older games is that they use 16 bit installers. It isn't really related to th 3D portion. Once you virtualize XP, you can install the games and run them without issue.
