    Having trouble with pc

    Hello again!

I am not sure where I should post this, but I am having issues with a pc and not sure what the problem may be. Here is a brief run down on what is happening:

I have loaded XP on my other pc like 3 times. The first time it lasted a while then started getting blue screens. Reloaded again, same thing. I recently tried again, but this time the system went to blue screen 3 days later. I did notice that after the last MS windows update was finished, it wanted a restart, then after the restart, it would never boot to the OS. The pc just starts up and goes to the windows boot/splash screen and just keeps repeating itself. I am not sure what to do at this point. Could this be a sign of a bad HDD, or cd-rom drive, maybe the mo-bo?

Would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me with this problem! I do apologize if I should have posted this elsewhere, but am just desperate to get this pc running proper!

    Thanks in advanced!!!

I wouldn't install that particular update. That should stop the BSODs. Install updates one at a time until you find the one that causes the problem, then research that update and see if others have the same problem when using the same hardware you have.

I did forget to mention that I did try another install of XP last night, and after it finished formatting the partition using the NTFS file system, and copying files to memory, then the system will reboot in certain amount of seconds, is where it started giving me trouble. After it rebooted, a screen came up saying that a file was not installed. I am not sure at this point what to do. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Is this a known-good XP with Sp3 CD which has worked before? Is it dirty or scratched since then? Did you burn it yourself?

Has XP been installed to this computer before? What is the OS which came with it? Are you attempting a Dual Boot? Did you try full formatting?

Test hardware: RAM - Test with Memtest86+ for 5-6 passes, following tutorial to test slots as well.
Then test HD using maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan followed by Disk Check
from Win7 DVD System Recovery Options Command line.

It was the XP disc, with Sp3, that came with the pc. I could try and clean the disc, as I have a cd cleaner.

Yes- XP was installed on this pc when it arrived. No dual boot.

Since it sees the HD it isn't a SATA controller driver needed. Did you try full formatting?

One thing I did not do is press the F6 button. I am not sure about RAID,SCSI, or SATA drive. I did use the Format the partition using the NTFS file system, not the (Quick one)

Thanks again, I really appreciate the help!

What motherboard do you have? You need to fill out your system specs - click the first link in my signature and follow the instructions.

If your computer came preinstalled with XP SP3 and it worked, but it doesn't work when you install it yourself, that leads me to believe there's a driver required that isn't being installed. Once you fill in your specs we can research that.

    Hello kegobeer!

Here is what's inside my pc:

Mother board is an MSI G31TMP-P21/CPU=Intel Celeron E3300 2.5GHz/RAM=rendition MEO 2GB Single Channel DDR2 PC6400 800MHz/Power Supply= ATX 250W Switching power supply-Model#SL-8270BTX/HDD=WD 250GB model#WD2500AAJS/LG super multi DVD-rom drive. I am unsure of the model # of the DVD-rom drive, but could take it out if you need it. I kind of thought that maybe the dvd drive could be having an issue of writing to the HDD, or maybe the HDD is having problems. I am not sure.

    Best Regards!

you can fill in the system specs using the data you know about your PC.

Be sure to include the amount of ram.

I realize that you will not be able to take advantage of these programs, but so that you know the procedure, then:

    Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
    (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
    “system manufacturer” block, for example,
    Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
    MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.
